Infinite improvement leaves 5s deflated
James MansellThis match report starts a good 10 minutes into the first half, the time this shoeless lemon arrived at the game, with South growing into the match after sustaining some early Spalding pressure. Eventually, South were able to sustain their own pressure on the Spalding 23. Two quick goals gave South a deserved lead. Firstly, Josh finished a deflected assist from Jan via and overhead smash. Secondly, Jordan W made the best of a botched short corner to convert from close range.
With plenty to be pleased about at half-time, South were looking good for their first win of the season. Unfortunately, the first half repeated it's self with Spalding applying early pressure. This time they were able to convert the pressure into a penalty stroke opportunity. However, this brought out another big moment from young Joe L in goal with a stick save from the resulting stroke. Still Spalding applied pressure and finally got their reward. At 2-1 South started to regain control and were able to start applying their own pressure on Spalding. South, on the hunt for a third, got caught by Spalding on a turnover and counter attack for Spalding to level 2-2.
The final 10 minutes was an onslaught from South on the Spalding 23, D and goal. Unfortunately a goal line save, post and couple of near misses prevented South from getting a deserved first win of the season.
Lots of positives to focus on as the season keeps on rolling.
