Smashed it

Juliette Stoop

After slotting myself in following my delayed arrival, I noticed the team was buzzing to go : we were to face a supposedly strong opponent - one that had been relegated from the league above ours. The L2s ready to come out ruthlessly.

After 15 odd minutes the first goal went in. This goal (from Rebecca on the 23 to Jess) was one which was preceded by strong link-ups, and a beautiful press, which we later realised had become an unbeatable wall throughout the game, and was shortly followed by not two, not three, but four more goals in the remaining 20 minutes of the half.

The next few were a blur - something like Emily M -> Rhi -> Cait which was then pelted in, followed by Emily B on the wing linking it to Juliette , who put it in from the p spot between the goalie’s feet, and finally Juliette and Emily B linking up for two identical goals: Juliette passing it to Emily B who slapped it in from the post to bring us to 5-0. In this half, the ball hardly left our half, but do not be fooled by the goals - the midfield and solid defence had everything to do with this.

Half time talk - “let’s not get complacent girls” - and back on the pitch we were. Spalding’s frustration seemed to be taken out more on our feet than anything else , as it seemed for a while that football was the sport at hand - but before too many feet were made, another goal went in by Emily B, making this a hattrick for her (subsequent joint POM with Cait). Another followed by Juliette with the assistance of Rhi, before a final goal from Rebecca closed the match off.

So it’s fair to say that the L2s smashed this game. With so many people to vote POM for, a tie between Emily B and Cait became the decision, while I took home a lemon hat for “hattrick avoidance” - everybody having apparently forgotten my delayed arrival *phew*. Another beautiful week for our purple team.
