A game of 2 halves
Hannah MunceyIt’s Saturday and the POM, LOM and Captain are first to assemble in the changing room. Yes that’s right, I am basically early and we’re told that the game is a freebie (ie, winners are grinners) - what a day to be alive (or not).
Turns out that a freebie actually translates to ‘expected to lose but this is not considered to be a problem today’.
Anyway, the part timers assemble and the rain arrives on cue (a welcome cool down for the athletes). We start our game, week 2 of the new formation, we let in a couple of short corners and a goal in open play. Ginny gets a big whack - problematic all round really as Ginny is crying (v painful) and the defenders are deceased. Someone get this gal back on the pitch (let it be known that no goals were scored whilst she was on the field - ‘get that in the match report yeah’). Fortunately the premium part timer / coach arrived at this point and stood holding an ice pack on Gin’s arm whilst she stood looking sad and held her glove in her spare hand.
However, the girls carried on playing hockey and the second half was much more impressive. Everyone rallied to work together to create space, switch play, hit the opposition D and defend as a unit - the reward was a clean sheet. Suz got POM for a smashing last game for CSHC before she moves to pastures new (although the Halloween hun will be sighted in Cambs next weekend). I got LOM for my over ambitious attempt to stay 5 after a foul (someone hold me back).
