Never assume you’ve got your gumshield!
Anna LathamiSome think it’s lemon worthy to miss the second half of warm up to drive home to get your gum shield, Id say it’s responsible but that’s not how my team mates viewed it! So here I am writing you a match report about superb our game was!
On the pitch with Rhi leading our heart racing warm up, Uni slowly wandered on the pitch not looking too enthralled to play a game of hockey. It would seem they weren’t prepared at all, having to borrow balls for their warm up!
The whistle went and within 3 mins South were already in the universities D trying very hard to get the ball into the goal, rebound after rebound the keeper kept getting it but Izzy got it past and we were 1-0 up! Straight out again, communication was perfect from Emily to Anne-Marie to Anna to Emma to Jess on the right who ran half the pitch, along the base line with a crossed ball to P-spot for Cait to flick it into goal, just marvellous play all round, 2-0 up!
The rest of the first half felt composed with a few break throughs from Uni and a short corner defended the first half finished 2-0. Half time spooky sour spiders provided by Rhian got the Halloween spirit in full swing.
In the second half Uni went all out, hanging high and really putting in shift to get a goal and stay in with a chase of the winning…this was not the case as Sophie D, Sophie H and Hannah in the middle got the ball through the uni defence up to Cait, Emily B and Jess and within 1 minute Rebecca appeared and made the score line 3-0!
The team remained composed, with some subbing due to injury, poor Hannah got a ball to the nose and Emily for a straight strike to the knee! This didn’t stop South, 2 more goals came in the 53rd and 58th minute from Cait and Jess. Cait received fab ball down the line from Rhian, where Cait proceeded to fool everyone and made a beautiful shot from a tight angle. With a famous Rhi hard slap and a shout to Jess who received it in the D, did a little spin and slapped it passed the keeper! Now the focus was to keep a clean sheet. Zoe played brilliantly, coming out and putting pressure on Uni players and making sure players were marked. The final whistle went and the score line was 5-0 to South, putting us now second in the table!!
MoM goes to Izzy our spinning queen, who we’ve know learnt gets a £1 from her dad for every spin she does on the pitch, please don’t be getting too dizzy Izzy!
