5 for the 5s!
Sélène StoopAfter having found out we were going to be playing with 10 people for the whole match (turns out Becky D needed a bit more sleep after her night out at the pub!) and seeing that there was a ‘pond’ of standing water in the middle of the pitch - we decided this would be a very defensive game.
We had a 10 second sticks in before shouting ‘South!’ to give Rosie some more time to arrive - but still we started on with 9 players. Rosie came onto the pitch just as Rittman scored a field goal assisted by Avi! Very soon after but still quite a few falls and tumbles later Avi once again made a beautiful shot at goal but Rittman ‘just had to make sure it would go in’ and gave it a little extra tap into the back of the goal. A bit later, a short corner was awarded, and Polly managed to finish it off after a strike from Bex. Kettering had a few breakthroughs and shots on goal but the defence and me managed to keep them all out and then returned to our birdwatching (there were some beautiful red kites flying around as Rosie later told the rest of the team). Determined to get her own goal in before half time, Avi managed to run down the whole pitch going round all the defenders and mids and hit the ball into the back of the net.
We came back after half time still quite surprised that we were winning 4-0 with only 10 players, but ready to keep going. Our final goal was scored by Bex from a fabulous p-flick!
I don’t think we’ve ever had better teas than in Kettering, with jacket potatoes, tea, garlic bread and cake.
LOM went to Becky, first for only waking up whilst we were already in the car, and then eventually just not turning up! Other ‘lemon wedges’ went to Polly and Nic for the wrong socks, Avi for endlessly falling over and Rosie for birdwatching.
POM votes went to Polly, Nic, Sélène, Avi, Rosie, and Harry but Bex’s p-flick managed to give her the title.
Overall, a great game despite the cold :)
