Words of Wisdom

Hannah Snow

It’s chilly, it’s sunny, it’s time for hockey. On the back of a win we are feeling confident to face the elbows of Wisbech and we prepare for a game full of words to live by…

Jenny Soderman - Wise words #1

A rousing team talk in the changing room from Jenny gets us fired up, “let’s be strong, hold our ground, fight for the ball, and don’t panic if we concede a goal… there’s a full 90 minutes of play to get it back”... *insert 15 confused and concerned players. No problem, who needs to know the rules anyway!

Tim Winter - Wise words #2

We all arrive promptly for our meet time following words of warning from coach Tim on us being late. A message is sent to the L1s group the night before warning us to be on time at all costs. So you can understand as we looked on, baffled, to see Tim waltzing over 40 mins late. But no bother, following a good pre match team talk on the press just before running onto pitch, we consider ourselves coached.

The game starts well and we get an early short corner, a fantastic drag flick from Izzy goes straight into the back of the net!! 1-0 to South

Possession is pretty equal and although we conceded a few short corners, we did a great job at holding off any goals from Wisbech.

Kate Dixon - Wise words #3

While our defence worked hard to clear the ball, a deflection off Kate’s stick grazed a Wisbeach player’s thigh. The player accuses Kate of doing it intentionally, to which Kate responds, “If I did it on purpose, I’d have hit it harder.” Wise words indeed.

Half time 1-0 to South

We began to take control of possession and get ourselves a few short corners although no goals came. A couple of calls were discussed between the umpires and Wisbeach were getting flustered.

Hannah Snow - Wise words #4

In the midst of umpire deliberations about a ball hitting a South or Wisbeach foot in the D, a decision favours a South short corner. A Wisbeach player shouts for the umpire to grow some balls. Quick to respond, Hannah S states, “It takes a real man to admit when he’s wrong” #preachit. The Wisbeach player continues to heckle, prompting the umpire to follow that players' original advice and give her a card.

South maintains possession until the final whistle, securing a splendid 1-0 victory.

LOM - Wise Words #5

Following our showers Hannah proceeded to get dressed in the order pants -> socks -> leggings -> shoes -> then top half which sealed her fate as lemon with one vote being for “socks on boobs out”, words to live by.

Our MOM votes were quite well distributed but overall went to Katie for holding the middle so well.

Tim Winter - Wise words #6

A raving review from Tim as he commented “I really enjoyed it, but tell you what, you lot really stress me out”. We now see why Jenny may think our games are 90 mins and not 70, it’s nail biting stuff.

Shout out to craft queen Maddy T for our new, very chic, lemon beret. Photos to follow on insta

“You’ve got to be a big man to admit you’re wrong” (or words to that effect)
