L6 1-3 Huntingdon & Northstowe Ladies 2

Lou Walker

With sixes numbers low this week, several l4 and 5s stepped in to double up and help make up the numbers. A big thank you for Polly, Nicole, Avi and Shree, all playing their second game of the day but managing to maintain great energy levels. Avi was excellent in defence, always coming to meet the ball and pushing up into midfield to support the attack. Despite some great individual play, we took aa while to adjust to playing together as a different group, and gave the ball away a few times. The opposition took advantage of this to break through and score a few. Later in the second half, some excellent passing ended with a goal for South – Pedzi made a well-placed assist/pass and with perfect timing, Sophie got on the end and flicked it into the net. At half time we were 3-1 down – not a position we are used to this season after such an excellent run of results. We came out stronger in the second half, with more of the play in their half, and no goals scored by either side. Elly did a great job in South’s goal. Ending our unbeaten run was frustrating, but at least this development game does not affect our league position, and this was an enjoyable game against one of the nicest opposition teams we have met this season. It was a nice surprise (for some of us) to learn that tea was at the Queen Edith pub for a change. Unfortunately Pedzi hadn’t heard this, and found herself all alone at Cantabs. By the power of WhatsApp, she was directed to the right place to enjoy some tasty food and the award of Lemon. PoM went to Sophie, whose positioning and running was excellent throughout, and for her lovely goal. We look forward to getting back to winning ways next week, bring on Ely!
