A "placeholder" while we wait for Jim (again)
Danny McCreeComing off the back of a hearty defeat of St Neots 3s, the 4s came into the second half of the Neots double ready for a slightly closer match...
Small patches of ice lingering around the edges of the pitch meant everyone could only run in straight lines. Or not at all in the case of sideline manager Danny McCree who tried a bit too hard in the mixed game and pulled his hamstring.
The first half opened with some smooth movement and pressure up the pitch, with Jamie and James T hassling the Neots defence and locking down their 16s, with them struggling to get the ball out of the back. South were unlucky not to be awarded a few short corners and several shots put just wide of the post by the Neots defence meant no success up top.
At the other end of the pitch, several quality saves by Matt Need and a cracking performance by the whole defence (with the defensive brick of man-of-the-match Martin and James Piper in the centre and Pash and Matt W holding the wings) meant the score stayed at 0-0 at the break.
With the cold air stealing the 4s only sub's ability to breathe, it was a bare 11 who bedded in for the second half with last-minute arrival Keishi returning to the 4s afyer a few years away. With their last reserves of energy they fought till the end, with the classic midfield combo of Josh, Jordan and Matt controlling the middle of the pitch but struggling to break through, even with Martin filling Danny's usual role of "marauding centre-back" and driving down the wing.
Despite Kieran's best efforts, South were again unlucky not to be awarded several shorts in the second half and the score remained a hard fought 0-0 at the close of the match.
