M5 vs Ely 2
Huw Thomas
We came into the match of the back of a cracking loss to the M4s in the derby last week; best M5s performance I’ve seen (helped by some old friends coming back from the M4s). So optimism was high, confident that if we played like that the rest of the season, we’d be good enough to beat most teams in the league.
Sadly, we didn’t play like that. Things got off to a bad start with a warm up missing half the team, myself included, and Matt forgetting the team sheet. But after that, the first 1/3 of the game was actually pretty decent. We played alright, held our shape strung some passes and had a few attempts on goal and a few shorts. Sadly, we didn’t make anything of any of them, other than Danny showing off some nice football skills, and me nearly scoring a wonderful own goal at our end. Ely though had got one in at our end, but we looked like a team that could get one back if we just upped our game a little; getting to the ball first, making something of our shorts etc. Unfortunate, we let in a sloppy goal with about a minute left of the 1st half. But whilst we went into the break feeling like we were in the game if we just played a little better, we came out of the break playing like a team 2nd bottom of the league. We let in two more goals in quick succession, one a defensive mix up that left their centre forward with a 1 on 1 against Joe, and another with an interesting, if possibly accidental, lobbing of Joe from an impossibly tight angle. After that, Ely had some more attempts but didn’t get any more goals, and we had fewer but occasional attempts, including Danny forgetting the rules of short corners. So end result a 0-4 loss and a rather dispiriting day. We’re a good side, every opposition team seems to be surprised we’re in the relegation places, but for whatever reason, things just really aren’t working out this season for us. Hey, ho, perhaps if we do get relegated, we can have an M4s-esque season next year, which might be funDan Image-Flower
Player of the Match
Great work at pivot. Beckenbauer-esque. Also Footballer-like in flopping to the floor. Klinsmann-esque.

Lemon of the Match
Received a cross and threw it goalwards, drawing an impressive reflex save. The problem: Huw took considered aim at our own net - the 'keeper making the save was a very surprised Joe!
