Five Forward First Fast Fun Goals

Rhi Davies

South were back to their winning ways again this week, with a 5-0 win against St Neots 2s. After last week’s draw, the L2s were ready to show what they are made of and ensure that all balls that went in the back of the net were shot from the inside of the D (I promise I will let it go … soon).
The day started off cold but after a lap of the car park and a thorough warming up the girls were ready for push back. St Neots started, and South didn’t seem to have everything together with a slightly shaky couple of minutes. However, it didn’t take long for the team to get their mojo back and string some lovely passes together. Molly holding the middle and Jenny cleaning up the back the team began to show what we could do. Finally, South were on the front foot and after serval attacks were awarded a short corner. Hannah’s beautiful injection was stopped, strike and scored by Jess, who didn’t seem to celebrate, quoting ‘she was shocked at the shot’.  1 – 0 and this was the start of the goals to come. Second came from a quickly taken free hit by Rhi outside the D to drive along to the base line, slapping the ball across goal where Izzy was ready to slot it past the keeper.
Neots showed their skill with some good attacking play, but Emma, Anne Marie and Rhian made sure to stop them and bring the ball swiftly back down the wings to help South’s next attacks. The third goal of the half came from some textbook passing between the forward line between Rhi and Emily B to be finished off by Jess. South weren’t done here and with a final attack of the first half, the ball was ping ponged around the edge of the D for Rebecca to take a shot, deflected of some other South stick for the keeper to save, but only as far a Jess’s stick who whipped the ball out of the air into the back of the net.
Half time 4-0.
The second half was little more of a quieter story, Neots had obviously come out with a game plan with some strong hits to try and open up their opportunities. However, Zoe was ready to save anything that came her way. Our final goal came in the middle of the second half, after another short corner duo move between Hannah and Jess, the keeper saved, Anna was ready on the base line to precisely curve the ball into the near post. 5 – 0 the final score and a much happier result for the team.
POM was quite the divided affair this week with votes for Jess (Hatrick Hero), Jenny and Anna, but our aerial queen was awarded it this for both her on ground tackles and her high flying areal too.  LOM was a more one-sided affair this week, after taking out the same player multiple times, Rhi took it upon herself to trip over her own feet and then the player in front of her, tumbling her way to her first lemon of the season.
