Cambridge South L6 vs Peterborough 4

Lottie Fraigneau

On a scorching Saturday afternoon, Cambridge South L6 played their first league match against a well-drilled Peterborough 4 side. Despite a valiant effort, the team suffered a 5-0 defeat in what proved to be a tough encounter.

The heat was a factor as we found ourselves 3-0 down by half-time. Peterborough’s players displayed great cohesion, which was expected from a team familiar with each other’s style of play, while we continue to learn and gel as a new team. For several of our players, this was their very first league game, which added to the challenge.

There was, however, one "special" contribution to Peterborough’s tally—our very own captain Lottie.F, in a moment of misguided enthusiasm, managed to deflect the ball into our own goal.

Despite the scoreline, our defence was busy and committed, with Astrid, Sarah, Lottie.K, Laura, and Amelia working tirelessly, especially in our D. Amelia, in particular, stood out with her stellar defensive work, earning her joint second place with Nicola and Sophie in the player of the match votes. Our Player of the Match, however, went to Emma, who was outstanding in goal, pulling off some incredible saves to keep us in the game.

In the midfield and forward lines, Nicola was a force in the middle of the pitch, while Sophie impressed with her relentless runs and calls for the ball. Rosie, Molly, and Nicola all showed immense endurance, running continuously under the blazing sun.

Pedzi deserves a special mention as the vocal leader on the pitch, constantly shouting helpful guidance on positioning—keeping everyone on their toes and well-organized.

A shout-out also goes to Meg, who made her debut for Cambridge South L6s in this game—an exciting start to what will surely be a strong future with the team.

Although the score didn’t go our way, it was a valuable learning experience, and we’ll continue to grow and improve as the season progresses. We’re still finding our rhythm, and this first game is just the start of what promises to be a fun journey ahead.
