Leaving It All to the Last 10 Minutes

Derby Day! The 2s were ready, fully warm up by the captain and the team talk completed. The girls knew this wasn’t going to be an easy match, the 3s have some very fast attacking players and solid defensive line, this was going to be a good match.

The whistle went to start the match and as expected the 3s came out fighting which set the 2s into a little bit of a chaotic mess. However, once the team settled into the game, we began to build some great play around the back to maintain the possession and set ourselves up for some great opportunities with some unfortunate near misses on the back post. Short Corners came and went for both team Lou had a stormer throughout the game, saving shots from all over the place earning her joint POM with Zoe, who continued the fight during the whole game and was anywhere and everywhere she was needed. The first half ended 0-0, a strong team talk was need and the reset button to be pressed. Full of fizzy sweets, the girls were ready and knew what they had to do in the second half.

Hayley and Emily continued the hard work at the back stopping and nippy forwards coming through whilst Cordie and Freya continued the defensive line to work the balls down the wings. The 3s continued to battle hard giving the midfields a lot to do running back and forth to defend but ready to counterattack when ready.  Lucy stormed the middle running for side to side and enabling the constant ability for a back pass option. With one so exciting, her bounce back past to Rhi left a lovely lift ball shaped quad bruise. This was just one of many bumps and bruises Rhi developed through the game, earning her LOM for spending more time on the floor than standing. Fortunately, for the team Rhi managed to spend enough time on her feet to slip two goals past, one from a finally successful short corner routine assisted by Emily B, the other a sneaky steal from a 16.

A slightly more stressful game than the 2s would have liked but a wins a win, and we set ourselves up for our next game, across town to Uni at Wilby.
