Derby Day!
Elly BullMild panic set in as the L5s arrived at the Long Road pitch, since there was already a purple vs. yellow match in play. Thankfully we remembered that we were the second women’s derby of the day and we weren’t in fact late for our very first league match!
Things got off to a quick start with Meg M scoring within the first minute on her CSHC debut. Six minutes later, she scored her second goal! The L6s quickly regrouped, with the L6s giving the L5 defence a good run. Rosie B took a free hit and passed to a very well positioned purple player… forgetting that we were in yellow (apt because she won Lemon of the match!)! Play continued, and the L5s won a short corner. Anna W stepped up to the line to inject… but which line was it? Anna apparently couldn’t remember where to inject from, earning herself a couple of Lemon votes. A scrappy short corner ensued, with Sophie E finally ending it by slipping the ball into the corner of the goal. Just before the end of the first half, Meg M managed to sneak another goal in, making it a hattrick for her debut and earning her the player of the match title!
Rosie B’s half time sweets went down a treat (even if they weren’t vegan) and we headed back onto the pitch. The L6s came back on determined, so much so that Nicky S managed to send Rosie B flying. Some excellent play up the right wing from Amelia W and Elodie R on their debuts for the L5s enabled Anna W to redeem her earlier shortcomings and score the final goal of the match, bringing the score to 5-0.
