Onwards and upwards!
Nicky SimlerIt was Derby day for Cambridge South with the L2/L3s match running somewhat behind schedule. The L5s and L6s were eager to get on the pitch having last played each other some years ago. Our squad of 16 had already dwindled down to 12 players leaving us with just one sub, and Big G standing in for our absent captains.
The first push back was taken by the L5s and they made their way steadily up to the D and Meg M scored with in seconds. This set the tone of the match and despite putting up a well fought battle we lost 5-0. We pressured the defence on many occasions but we were unable to get the ball over the line. Such was our desperation, we even tried to take out one of their defenders earning Nicky S lemon of the match.
The defence and mid players worked really hard to keep the L5s in check and Emma B made some superb saves to keep the score line down to a respectable number.
Match teas were well deserved at Queen Ediths. There were several mentions for excellent play for Harriet B, Georgie G, Yolandé W and Freya D but Helen D earned POM for brilliant midfield play – which may be her new calling.
After 2 matches in Div 4, the L6s are currently firmly seated at the bottom of the table. We found our rhythm in the second half of today’s match conceding just one goal after half time, and applied more pressure on the L5s defence. We need to maintain and build on that rhythm going forwards. Onwards and upwards (as they say)!

Brilliant midfield play, "mid is your calling", "stormer of a game", "great passing and taking the ball off players”
