Is it just me or could Cambridge South’s M1s be another version of Richmond FC from the famous Ted Lasso TV series. Yes, I know I’m behind the times having only started this series now but, how about it?

We have our very own coach Ted Lasso, Will Townley our skipper. Also known as Big Willy T, Big Willy or just Big T. Whatever tickles your fancy. His relentless optimism and positive attitude portrays the character of Ted to a (Big) T. His love of emojis this season has not gone unnoticed, but one thing is for sure, if you’re ever in receipt of one, you know Big T has your back.

After this weekends game it’s only fair to say that our VC Ed Doust, also known as Big D or just Ed, is the one and only assistant coach Roy Kent. Big D lives and breathes the sport of hockey and always wants to be around the game, just like Roy with football. However, Roy’s main characteristic is his aggression and passion for the game. He struggles to keep control of his emotions and at times is a bit too passionate. Just like Big D throughout the game earning himself a green. It’s fair to say that we all felt these frustrations throughout the game and let it get the better of us.

Moving on, have you ever met a man that loves hockey more than Sam Highfield. This man epitomizes the character Dani Rojas, but instead has the catchphrase, “hockey is life!” (Season 1, Episode 6).

Having only watched the first season of Ted Lasso and having only played three league games of the season, it leaves me with plenty of time to work out if there are any other relatable characters to the team. Stay tuned.

Back to the hockey….

The lads went into this weekends game having won the first two league games and remained undefeated during preseason. A strong start but fully aware we were yet to face a more challenging opposition. That challenge came in the form of St Alban’s HC. South looked the stronger side at the end of first half, even though the score line was 1-1. A few disruptions in the second half led to us to losing our heads. We lost a 3-1 lead in the final 10 minutes and lost the game 4-3. A real tough one for the lads, with a few things to go away and reflect on. However there were also lots of positives from the game.

With the thought process of Ted Lasso in mind, the lads need to pick themselves up and channel positivity and the desire to win into next weeks training session. Above all, they need to BELIEVE!
