Winning time let's have a rhyme
James PiperThe afternoon autumn sun cast its golden sheen
On this eclectic and highly talented team.
Bereft of skipper Barton – who was sick –
But instructions in our ears for hockey to be slick and quick.
M5 victors (George, Matt, Ivo and Jo) relished a second game – but at home,
While Justin flew in ‘specially from Rome!
The veterans Shazhad, Pipes, Dan and Jan
Rolled back the years – they shuffled, walked, jogged and even ran!
Ben’s string of saves repelled an experienced Neots side – he kept his nerve,
While Nuwan defended robustly, distributing calmly and attacking with verve.
Henry controlled the left flank, attacking with frightening pace
And Jesse terrified their defence on the right – his sliding winning goal was a showcase!
And of course, Dexter set up Jesse’s winner and opened the scoring with a shot he nailed.
All five had MoM votes but Jesse prevailed.
So – definitely centre stage were the youth…
Clearly the future of Cambridge South!
[Ed - that's "youth" pronounced "y-oww-ff" right?!]
Jesse Diggins
In a game with so many candidates, Jesse edges the cutting for his overall performance and hitting the winning goal!
