Broken sticks and twisted ankles

Lucy Lucas

Optimal prime time for standard L3s chitchat waiting for the St Marys pitch to open. We noted we had 3 Louisa's and a Lucy who is a Lu. Pitch comms was going to be interesting.

We had a mostly good first half, with Mo, Steph and Emily able to make some breaks.

They had a formation that played their forwards high which put the willies up the defence on multiple occasions. Luisa put in a steller performance with multiple last man standing moments. And POM Selene made some incredible saves!

Screens Katy and Jess were working overtime playing a whole game in their roles that were constantly under the cosh. And Lucy, Louisa x 2, Harry and Rachel were working on nice outlets from 16s and triangles.

As usual, we defended many, many short corners. Giving ourselves a hell yeah that we are actually SO good at these. Certainly don't need to add those to training practice.

Half time arrived. Only 1-0 down.

In our good hockey moments we cleared well, did some lovely triangles and focused on the ball doing the work. It was a beautiful piece of team play that lead to Harry's goal - first one for South *clap *clap (it's a special moment!)

Anyway, the last quarter took a spiral and a few more goals were popped in by Spalding, some nice, some not. Can't remember the deets, we were a tad busy in defence.

In the last few mins Emily had a tumble on a break (praying you heal quickly!). Took a hot minute for time to be stopped and in true L3s style, she opted to be carried off like a queen.

We were all definitely out of steam by this point (lack of subs did us dirty) and v happs for the final whistle 3 mins later.

And in a final note, should mention the LOM. In the last 10 (after doing some heavy defending) my stick snapped mid tackle (RIP) and gave me splinters (its had a hairline fracture for a few years, noted comments that this wasn't wise, but we had a bond, we had become as one). After rummaging in Steph's bag (a pro with her stash of spare sticks) I hopped back on, first touch was absolutely rogue and it was very clear I was unable to unify with said temporary stick (thank you Steph, but your reserve number is not for me). The reality kicked in and I spent the remainder of the game notifying everyone of my woes - apparently this was not the time and probs didn't help with the increasing scoreline #sadtimes #sozhuns
