Onward and upward! Part.2
Lottie FraigneauSaturday saw Cambridge South L6 take on a formidable Ely City 2 side. While the final score read 4-0 in Ely’s favour, the day was anything but boring!
Our goalkeeper, Emma, was nothing short of sensational, pulling off save after save—some so stylish we’re starting to think she’s practising for a highlight reel. She was hands down (or rather, gloves on) our Player of the Match, keeping the scoreline in check despite Ely's constant attacks.
On the flip side, Despite her amazing runs and calls for the ball, Lyra took home the coveted LOM (Lemon of the Match) award for being late and… without shin pads. Who needs protection anyway? Luckily, Helen came fully equipped when she took a ball to the face, gum shield firmly in place, leaving her teeth untouched.
Then there was Frankie. First, scoring in the wrong goal! And as if that wasn’t enough excitement, she went on to get into hot water with Ely’s caterer for making her tea “wrong.” However, she and Astrid were a rock-solid defensive duo, coolly snatching the ball off Ely’s attackers with such finesse they could’ve been giving a masterclass.
Georgia was the engine in midfield, making play after play as our brilliant centre-mid. We also want to give a huge shout-out to Emma.L, who made her debut with the team and played like she’s been with us all along—an amazing start to her Cambridge South journey!
Despite the 3-0 deficit at half-time (and 4-0 at full-time) and playing around 200 short corners (which gave us plenty of practice!), we took away some solid positives —if nothing else, we’re ready to handle corners in any future game!
All in all, although the score wasn’t in our favour, we had a great time. The team is really starting to click, and we’re only going to get better from here. Onward and upward!
