A 0/1

Izzy Parsley

Before I explain why our match day experience in Dereham was a 0/1 I want to give credit to Hannah snow for the amazing instagram page ‘rate the away games showers’ which inspired this match report.

First of all, we all woke up ready and early for a 0/1 weather; no sun to be seen and a hint of rain in the air.

After arriving early at Long road, we then had a 0/1 drive to Dereham which took 1 and a half hours – it was a bloody long way.

Eventually after almost falling asleep on the journey, we arrived to discover the Changing room was the smallest changing room to ever exist, as small as Harry potter's cupboard. It was also carpeted... Who carpets their changing rooms? - Simply weird. Surprisingly, this too was rated a 0/1.

As you know our whole team must go for a wee before the game, to much surprise the toilets were rated a 0/1- the taps didn’t even work at the same time, when one tap was on the other stopped and vice versa.

The initial dry welcoming of Dereham Hockey club changing rooms prepared us for the most shocking game our team has ever played…

We began with a strong lead of a goal in the first 10 mins from Rebecca who slipped it in the corner, however this quickly became a challenging game - not because of the team we were playing, but the umpires for some confusing calls. 3 green cards were given all for no good reason to Me first (who has never got a card in my life), to Tildy second (has never got a card before) and lastly to Jenny our Captain who has never got a card for South before. Doesn’t this just say something in itself. Therefore, I give logical decisions 0/1.

To finish off on a happy note, the game ended with 2 more goals (one from Tildy and a second from Me) this left the score as a well deserved 3-1 win. - Well… well deserved 3 goals for us not the opposition who got it on a short corner where only two of our defenders were defending as Kim and Tildy had been called up for allegedly breaking too early. However, we earned the reward of jacket potatoes beans and cheese with the special surprise of a sponge cake from Nichola.

To conclude it was certainly an interesting game and we gained a few points coming away with a win. However, we are not looking forward to return to Dereham for their 1s game that’s for sure.
