Penalty Corners on the Whistle

Rhi Davies

On a very damp morning, the L2s headed out to play St. Ives 1s, where they expected a hard fought battle, and that is definitely what we got.

The first half of St. Ives showed their strength with some great work and strong work through the middle. Winning multiple short corners, but our defence was ready and managed to bat any attacks away. Unfortunately, Anna's batting away let to a little whoopsy into our own net. 1-0 down, but not for long. Daisy used her nifty skills and managed to get the ball around the St Ives defence with a little flick. 1-1. Well done Daisy, that managed to get the girls settled. Just before the half time whistle South were awarded a Short Corner. All up. This is going in the goal. With a very decisive call from Freya she slapped the ball to Amelia who was standing on the back post ready to slot it in. 1-2 we went into the half time sweets.

Jelly babies and 16s discussed we went back on. The battle continues and the back and forth tested all our fitness. It was very close but no one could get the ball into the back on the net. Unfortunately, just before the final whistle, like the first half a short corner was awarded, this time for St Ives. Sadly for South, they slip the ball passed our near post. Final whistle gone, 2-2. A shame but a fair result and great game.

POM  - was a easy choice for our keeper who is definitely a keeper, saving left right and centre enabling us to go into slip week still unbeaten.

LOM - was a much more debated topic with Anna's mishap being over shadowed by Zoe's flying shinpad that just didn't want to stay in her sock

A wayward shinpad.... but atleast it didn't go in the goal
