L2 2-0 City of Peterborough Ladies 3

Zoë Watson

This week our captain Rhi decided to trade a rainy Long Road astro for the Turkish sunshine (can’t say we blame her). But with her sipping cocktails on the beach, the rest of the team was on a mission to secure a win and let her soak up the rays worry-free!

A short corner in the first half presented an opportunity to get ahead. Cordi, clearly eager to escape the clutches of defence, stepped up for a straight strike—but it was Emily who hammered the ball past the keeper to give a 1-0 lead. That’s how it stayed for the rest of the first half, some lovely passing between the back line of Hailey, Rhain, Anne-Marie & Anna ensured the scorecard was kept clean.

Into the second half and Liv was making her L2 debut in centre midfield, and whilst the purple bib gave it away that it was her first game, her skills did not. Some slick dribbling across the centre of the pitch earned her some POM votes alongside Freya who proved she should be allowed out of defence from time to time.

Anna L darted up the sidelines and into the D like a gazelle, to win some short corners. Beth proved that it is rude to be early as she got injector Freya sent back to the half way line for her premature entering of the D. Sadly none of these shorts were converted but never fear, some lovely triangle play up the pitch got the ball back into the opposition D and a nice cross from Cordi was received by Emily on the back post and put us 2-0. 2 green cards in the second half (one from each side) sent Beth to the sidelines and secured her LOM win.

Shoutouts have to be given to the defensive line who’s solid play kept a clean sheet despite some close calls. Anne-Marie earned POM with expert tackling and a goal line save which was rightfully celebrated with a nice fist pump in the air. In fact, the defence were so solid GK Lou may as well have joined Rhi in Turkey as she didn’t have to touch the ball once in the entire 70 minutes (we’ll give her some credit though for shouting everyone into position & organising the defensive shorts).

All in all an enjoyable match finished off in true L2 style with some delicious cookies courtesy of Emily who also managed to win joint LOM with Beth for knocking over her glass of lemonade at teas.
