Mo Hall#ripteeth
Big day out for the L3s. Captains were half an hour late but at least Mo didn’t feel carsick.
We assembled our lemonselves and warmed up with sightings of a very friendly deer. Yes that’s right! A muntjac munching on the grass whilst we were shooing the chickens.
After a good old warmup (with some nosy looks from the Pelly coach on our short practice - I know, we’re fit), we were feeling good and had a positive team talk from the capitanos. Ready to ROLL.
The whistle went and Pelicans were already on our toes with their slick passing and big hits. I think we all blinked and there was one or two goals scored. It wasn’t all doom and gloom though because our QUEEN Lydia was literally getting some goalie practice every minute and blocking a crazy amounts of shots. We also managed to do some attacking! Some lovely midfield distribution and balls in the D. Unfortunately no conversion which was sad.
I think the first injury then occurred, with Harry being taken out by a pelican. Wish it was the bird would’ve made the collision a bit less brutal. Katy B however had to outdo Harry and literally get the same Pelican’s stick in her mouth, to the point where the gumshield was not allowed out of her mouth. I won’t gore you with the details but there were descriptions of crunching and/or lack of feeling. Not good. To the point where Harry and Katy departed soon after to get Katy seen to in Cambridge. My bet was Katy wanted a lil more time for her dead zombie outfit tonight (jks Katy love you and your teeth xx).
So in classic L3s Season 24-25 fashion, we were down to 11 and no subs. Fantastic. Unfortunately despite the mammoth effort from our defenders Katy, Lucy, Luisa and Hannah and screens Rachael and Grace in clearing the ball out the D and reducing goal damage, pelicans managed to slip another 2 in before half time.
We ventured to the other goal and my apparently LOM-worthy sweets were consumed. For contact, my Halloween themed toxic toads, ‘blister’ looking chocolates and pina colada sweets apparently didn’t go down well (even though they were eaten!!!). After having some sugar and a hype talk we were aiming to reset and regroup.
Whistle blew and the second half commenced. After much more pushing and shoving, unfortunately pelicans were capitalising on our lack of subs and if I’m being honest just rubbing it in a *tiny* bit by getting the score up and up one by one. That didn’t stop our players like Lucy saving balls on the line and Lydia diving left right and centre. Also didn’t stop Luisa becoming a forward for a minute and having a little trip up the pitch.
We did some really lovely hockey (I promise) in both the first and second half, where Emily, Claudia and Anna (and Harry before she left) and when we built the play, we were making pelicans sweat. It was just really unfortunate they have like this one player who literally can hit Katy’s teeth out and then the ball in the net.
Steph and I also got our £12s worth and had some fun up front at some points. Unfortunately couldn’t get anything past the keeper to make the 8 goal difference better. Whoops.
Hannah M (big return!!!) also was back giving us the hype we needed and even playing the role of umpire sometimes! This earned her a 2nd place of LOM.
I think that’s all I’ll say about the match. Basically was a bit of a crazy score and made us a bit sad. But we don’t like #badvibes and we like teeth, so we’ll go into next week knowing our time is coming, just wasn’t this week with the L3s bad luck of injury’s and lack of subs.
Whilst we were munching on some fabulous cookies by Em (we love you), POM noms went to Lydia, Hannah, Rachael, Lucy and Luisa, reflecting the teams solid defensive line (just don’t look at that score line!). Luisa came out on top and won the sweetie bag. Mo got lemon for her sweets (get our own next week) followed by Hannah for aforementioned keenness on the pitch.
Well done guys, we’ll just ignore this week. If you’re reading this far you’ll be pleased to know Katy B only chipped her front teeth. Only partial #ripteeth.
