Match report – M2 vs. Newmarket 1
Newmarket came to Long Road as the clear underdogs in this East of England clash. The Cambridge South side that stepped on the field in the late evening sunshine was full of vim and vigour but much as the weather turned to drizzle, so did the team’s winning potential. Although saving a flick and making a handful of other excellent saves, the team did not keep up the tradition of giving goalkeeper George the Man of the Match vote; instead this went to Ali Smith, a dynamic midfield defender and all round lovely chap. Jacko slotted home South’s one and only compensation against Newmarket’s 3 well worked goals. Jim got Lemon for giving away a penalty flick that led to a Newmarket goal following a penalty corner deflection off of goalkeeper George. Overall lots of positive for South to take away from the game and lots to work on in the coming weeks and second half of the season.
