Croissants > Goal scored

Mo Hall

Another week another lom for myself! Where to begin.

As I sit here with my glass of wine reflecting on the day, I still have no regrets starting the day with buying Selene and I a pain au chocolat from Stir to go down with a latte I also purchased. Selene loved my pastry act of generosity, and we both innocently laughed as to how big the croissants were - the size of her head to be exact.

Pre-game, I decided to eat my croissant in front of all. Apparently it was funny. I would argue it was breakfast. But apparently the size and me eating it as a pre and half time snack let me be lom.

Anyway I’ve dedicated 2 paragraphs to this really uninteresting story now. Onto the game which is mostly about me anyway.

We knew city 5ths would be a hard game, and the odds maybe not in our favour given their high position in the league and their win over our l2s last week. That didn’t stop us (or Jan!) having some hope, especially after our win over Newmarket previously.

I would argue a really solid game was played by south by all. Yes we lost 5:1 (spoilers), but from the start we made those triangles, found those back passes and created those opportunities.

We had loadsa time in their D thanks to the likes of Steph, Hayley and Emily which was I think a shock for the forwards but we loved every second. To the point where we were so close a couple of times of converting and making city run for their money. Unfortunately nothing was quite yet getting past the goalie.

Our midfield and defence were also putting their skills to the test to not allow city to think this would be an easy match. There were a couple goals I think (someone with better memory can get future loms please if you actually want a good, accurate match report), which meant they were technically winning.

Don’t worry though, as I did remember this next bit. We did get at least one goal from a beautiful bit of play from Hayley, who slipped it to myself (Mo) and thankfully I managed to be accurate enough to get it in the back of the net. We celebrated like we’d won the game!!!

That didn’t stop city getting some attacking chances and scoring again. That’s ok as we had half time at this point.

After our team talk from Coach Ed (he came for the whole thing finally xx), some sweets and for some a croissant, we carried ourselves into the next half ready to just keep going.

I would again argue that we all put in a really good effort and made it hard for city to score. Yes ok they did score 2 more goals but the likes of the harry, Erin, Becky, Jess, L(o)uisas, Annabelle, Libby, Grace and of course Selene stopped every so many chances (think I’ve named everyone!!).

From my unknowledgeable opinion it looked like city’s breaks led them to those goals, but the game play was really quite equal and it was really a joy to play despite the scoreline. This is all from the fact I had chances to score (whether or not they went in was another matter). We even had a short!

POM went to Luisa for all round fab defending as per usual, you’re the best queen xx. Pom Noms for libby, Hayley, Annabelle, Grace and Mo which I say everytime I write a match report, reflects the team’s success. Lom went to me for my croissant, Pimms also getting a few for liking yeast and organising a vegan pizza.

So all in all, we did lose, but not in our spirit or our #goodvibes! My analysis would be, we’re now getting settled in enough as a team to build and create those opportunities to score, and with an opposition that aren’t top of the league, we’re going to do exactly what we did in Newmarket (plus some more goals). That’s a long way from when we started this season.

In the words of chat GPT, we may have lost the match, but just like a pain au chocolat, we’re layered with potential. Xx

Ps - I’m fed up of being the funny one obviously and having to write match reports, please someone take my LOM title.
