Happy Hockey!

Lou Walker

Captain Lottie’s priority instruction in the pre-match talk was ‘have fun’. And we did. Ok we didn’t win, but there was a goal in the right end, and a smaller score difference than recent games. Some great hockey was played and it felt like a good competition. We were only 2-0 down at half time, but Polly improved the balance early in the second half. Rosie (I think!) drove down the wing and put in a lovely diagonal cross for Polly to run into the D and score. Pedzi had an awesome game in goal, saving left right and centre, impressing the fans and players on both sides. Other PoM mentions went to Lyra (lots of energy and commitment), Rosie for great all round play and runs, and Sammy for some determined defending (at one point she was up against 3 opponents in our D – the inevitable did happen but she made them work for it). Kaylee had another fantastic game, outrunning players down the wing. Victoria had an excellent debut game, with great runs in the D. She was so keen that after Haverhill’s opening goal, she couldn’t wait for the whistle before pushing back again! This gave her the pleasure of wearing the beautiful lemon crown at teas – welcome to South and may it be your first game of many!  In a game with no subs, everyone worked hard and the energy levels remained high until the final whistle. This was a fun, competitive game, followed by chip butties and home made cakes – thank you Haverhill!

Amazing saves - so good that she got a mention in Haverhill's match report too!

So keen that she took pushback before the starting whistle!
