It was bad... and got worse!

Lottie Fraigneau

Saturday saw Cambridge South L6 embarking on an away match against Spalding, a journey over an hour long that turned into a tale of calamities.

The troubles began the night before, with difficulties accessing the kit bag, goalkeeper kit, and bibs due to a locked shed. On the morning of the match, the chaos continued when the pitch lock proved stubborn, delaying preparations further. Once the kits were retrieved, the team set off for Spalding, only to face another setback: a car carrying three players suffered a tyre burst, leaving those players unable to make the game.

Arriving at Spalding with just eight players, no bibs, no balls, and no team kit bag, the team was in dire straits. Thankfully, Spalding generously lent junior bibs to allow the game to proceed.

Despite the odds, Cambridge South defended valiantly. By halftime, they were down 5-0, and exhaustion began to set in. The second half was an uphill battle, and though the team fought hard, they succumbed to a heavy 16-0 defeat.

The Spalding team’s kindness and support helped to lighten the mood amidst the chaos, making the day a humorous memory despite the challenges.
