The day started off with a simple maths sum: meet time - journey time = 45 minutes late. Much like this match report…

Despite the lack of maths skills, South turned up to Ipswich with a strong squad of 16, what a treat. Izzy was determined to make her activity and meal for £12 worth it, and did not want the journey to be wasted. 

Activity (hockey) + meal (jacket potato, cheese and beans) = £12

Fuelled by the thought of not having to endure a long sad journey home, South started fired up and caught Ipswich by surprise. South were the better team for the majority of the first half, solidify by a goal. The call of ‘TO BIG T’ by Kim echoed around Tuddenham Road on our third short corner of the half. To ‘Big T’ it went, and with a great post deflection from Evie it snook past the wall which was Ipswich goal keeper. High fives, bum pats, 1-0 South.

Half time came with South feeling full of positivity. 

Ipswich came back out hungry and piled the pressure on South. A chaotic 20 minutes ensued and the purple ladies, found themselves disappointed that Ipswich had found an equaliser.

South continued to press on, with Tildy, our player of the match and affectionately now known as ‘Big T’, spraying the ball all over place. Distribution master class. 

South found some control again, only for a quick break from Ipswich resulting in another goal, sadly deflected in quicker than I had made the meet time. Another unfortunate math sum for myself. 

Late + own goal = lemon. 

South didn’t give up and found a new energy from this, really putting the pressure on. With many shots stopped by their outstanding goal keeper, south continued to press. A short corner was awarded and the final whistle went. Short corner + final whistle = BIG T. Big T turned up, as did South’s relentlessness to get the ball in the back of the net. Lucy found it eventually, but the umpire disagreed. 

It finished 2-1 and no maths was learnt.
