A team song
Alice Wright(verse 1 – captains - sounding hopeful)
Under the Long Road 3pm lights,
We’d all laced up our astros so tight,
The smell of magnesium, squashies, and dreams,
Filled the air as we prepared for the fight,
We were relatively hyped, but quite full from lunch,
Fighting for every ball, I think we’re such a good bunch,
Tim would squat deep and shout, ‘Give it all you got!’
And with purple in our veins, we’d give it a shot.
(chorus - all)
We were unlucky, but we played our hearts out,
Through every bad call, we learned what it’s about.
We still had fun, laughing through the pain,
Chasing victories under the pouring rain(poetic license)
We fought as a team, with a precious point to defend,
Although sadly, not how we wanted the match to end.
(verse 2 – Izzy S, Izzy MP, Anna, Evie, Loopy - upbeat)
Early on, a team move that looked just perfect to me,
From defence, to Hannah on wing, played in Maddy top D,
She didn’t shoot as she’s always such a good guy,
Slipped for a back post deflection, Kerryn did expertly apply,
We were flying high, Kate putting in a shift in the centre,
So much of Dereham’s attacking play, she was the preventer,
Tes also controlling the middle so well, until disaster struck,
Our new girl was tackled to the ground, as if in a ruck.
(chorus - all)
We were unlucky, but we played our hearts out,
Through every bad call, we learned what it’s about.
We still had fun, laughing through the pain,
Chasing victories under the pouring rain.
We fought as a team, with a precious point to defend,
Although sadly, not how we wanted the match to end.
(verse 3 – Lucy, Nichola, Kerryn, Hannah, Therese, Tildy - mournful)
Remember that game in cold drizzle not rain?
Many slipped on the pitch, and Izzy complained.
Some moments of brilliance, Katie’s cheers from the side,
A bond forged in sweat, but disappointment hard to hide.
The sweet taste of victory, just a keeper in the way,
But we will learn to find joy in the hard games we play.
Those nights in the Alma, under the projector’s glow,
Telling our stories, letting our laughter (and a few smashed pints) flow.
(verse 4 - Alice, rousing solo, Maddy on piano)
Now I look back, with regret at all our first half chances,
Whole team pressing high, so pleased with our advances,
We may not have conquered, but many positives to take,
We devoured the brownies dear Tim did bake,
A beige buffet on plates, MOM votes were counted,
Jenny a worth winner, her play so well-rounded.
LOM next, undeserved, vicious slander from Loopy,
Forgiven though as she was very good, Dereham’s goal was flukey.
