Nine misfortunes
Andy ThomasCome Thursday, Captain Sandy had a team lined up except for a goalkeeper. He knew was sure there no way there could be nine separate misfortunes happening to his squad. However following James Parsley's increasingly more desperate attempts to recruit a goalkeeper, a number of such misfortunes did indeed happen. I understand Sandy is still in custody in relation to 25,876 unsolved murders in New York.
Never mind. St Neots kindly lent us a couple of players to make up numbers. James Parsley's persuasive efforts finally paid off, when not only was I persuaded to play in goal but to write the match report. The game was characterised by some really good effort and team-work, including from the kidnapped players.
There was some very solid work at the back - with Etienne doing a superb job of foreseeing ever unforeseeable attack, allowing to focus just on any direct shots. Nick was rapid as anything, and Paul South was commanding the defence well, except when he was too busy drinking beer and rolling over. Their goal was scored following a number of passes, before finally being snuck between my legs.
Midfield was very rapid, with some decent end to end play. The ball quickly made its way up and into the enemy D as soon as we turned it over.
Our attackers had of time in the D, lots of 2:1s and decent shots from a number of players. Interrupted briefly by John G and Dexter taking a couple of minutes out to play a round of fencing with one another. Harry Sample was seen to make a lot of lead runs and drive a lot of play, and got the only conversion. Were it not for some very solid defence from St Neots, there could easily have been more goals.
All in all, some good work and a lot of fun.

Non-match-report notes:
Even game played in great spirit, including one off appearances from local guest stars Chris and Will.
We had the bullk of the chances but were thwarted by near misses and high quality St Neots goalkeeping

Stepping up to GK role at the last minute and playing a blinder. Thanks Andy

James 'Wolf' Parsley
Solid ,midfield play and encouragement to players around him, but outweighed by some premature celebrations for a non-goal when he didnt notice that his shot from close range was stopped on the line. Confusing for all
