Match report
James 'Wolf' ParsleyThe portents were good as the moon goddess partially devoured the day star heralding a hunt of rare opportunity. The Alpha (Sandy) nobly offered to look after the pups, safe in the knowledge that his well schooled betas would step up and deliver a final feast worthy of the last hunt of the season. So strong was the bloodlust in the pack that 6 slices (Alex) was already slavering during the team talk and asking of the feast to come.
And so the 13 strong pack set off with the scent of young buck and rather more stags than expected filling thier snouts.
South stamina soon started to tell as wave after wave of attacks had the stags with their backs to goal desperately swinging their antlers and stamping their hooves. Up steps wolf Parsley to win the ball just outside the right hand-side of the D and sweep it across goal. Jordan proved hungriest and devoured the opportunity, 1-0 (and the 9th time these two hunters have combined in this way this season).
Next it was the turn of the relative pup Super James Morrison to seek his pound of flesh. A super shot, was fallen upon by the stag in goal, but the supreme predator Rob dug the ball from beneath the antlers for a simple killing shot from 1 foot out, 2-0.
More attacks and more desperate defence led to a short corner. This time it was wolf Parsley's turn to kill as he drag flicked from the short just inside the left hand post.
Although it was 3-0 at half time, Jordan's brilliantly taken deflection from Rob's shot was dissallowed for obscure reasons, and another shot was saved on the line by a St Neots shoulder but this wasn't seen by the Umps so no flick was awarded.
And so began the second half. By now there were peices of buck and stag all over the pitch and they were already fighting for survival - Stu sore snout possibly with the sharpest claws. The occasional break out from the stags soon had them hearded back once more, if not by a superb midfield including George the Dragon Betts, Sore Snout Stu, Jan, and 6 slice, then by defenders J Hartly, P South and the ferocious Midnight (Dexter) and Super J. Sadly, not much for Joe D to do in goal. But a clean sheet nonetheless.
The first kill in the 2nd half was by Chairman John, gobbling up another offering from the wolf Parsley. The Rob always thirsty for blood showed his experience once more taking the next from a short corner and the final kill from a cf masterpiece deflection off a cross from the marauding Jan.
Howls of disappointment at the end greated the final whistle as the South pack were still hungry for more despite the 6-0 win. The venison was washed down by some superb staggy home brew as the pack reminisced on the superb hunting season.
Farewell to pack member Georgie Betts who avoided the home brew from a shin pad and limped away, tail between his legs to Cardiff. He will be missed.
