Goodbye Div 4 and Au Revoir Lottie
Freya Dall’OmoThis weekend saw Cambridge Souths L6 away against St Ives 3s.
Things started well with the L6s looking strong managing to get the ball into St Ives half with some good runs. However St Ives proved stronger and managed to score leaving L6 1-0 down. We then won a short with a strong attack from our forwards: Victoria, Pedzi, Meg and Sophie. An early run from a St Ives player left them with only 3 in defence but unfortunately south were unable to finish and get the goal. The game seemed to move between halves with South holding their own against the leagues current 4th place, St Ives. The first half ended with a St Ives short which they managed to score after some good defending from Lottie, Sarah, Laura and Astrid and an amazing first save from Tadi in goal, but it seemed the D was too crowded meaning the goal went in from L6s own player Lottie, leaving them 2 – 0 down at half time.
The second half started stronger after a chance to have some water and a rest on such a hot sunny day. L6s ability to move the ball from defence through the midfield was strong with Lauren, Frankie, Freya and Josie making some strong connecting passes across the pitch to the forwards. That said, St Ives also had a strong midfield and were able to move around some of the South Players and drive towards the goal. Goalkeeper Tadi did an excellent job making some impressive saves meaning the result still sat with south 2-0 down. The game was definitely fast paced with the ball in both halves which shows the confidence the L6s have managed to get in their last few matches. Unfortunately St Ives managed to get another goal in the second half which left the final result at 3-0. The L6s shouldn’t be disheartened however as the progress the team has made is evident.
Player of the Match went to Victoria for some amazing runs into the D and strong shots towards the goal.
Lemon went to Freya for turning up late after going to the wrong pitch!
What an excellent last game for the L6s despite a tough season!
The match was followed by an equally excellent tea to round off the season – chicken burgers and chips, supplemented by cake. Sadly it was also time to say Au Revoir to our fabulous co captain Lottie, who having moved to St Ives is joining her new local club next season. We'll miss you!
