Finally the season began for the L 5s and 6s, playing as a combined team, following last week’s unfortunate cancellation. This is what sunny Saturdays were made for.

No official PoM and Lom votes for this games as we all had to make quick exits, but here are a few honourable mentions:

• Excellent debut games for Rosie and Arshiya, both of whom played in defence and bravely faced up to some strong, tenacious and hard-hitting Stortford forwards – welcome to South and may this be your first game of many
• Superb saves from Zehra in her second of two back to back games – including saving a penalty flick late in the game
• Great movement around the midfield from Harriet, always seeming to appear in just the right place
• Another ‘Rittman special’ goal as Sarah put our goal in at the post. Then came her LoM moment when she accidentally pushed Elodie over in her enthusiastic goal celebration.
• Great pace and runs on and off the ball from Amy, Sophie and Elodie.
• Superb defending by Anna despite this not being her preferred position

Going into the half time break only 2-0 down we felt pretty positive given that many us had never played together before, and some were getting their first taste of a full match. Energy levels remained high throughout the game – they might have been even better if Lou hadn’t left the half time sweets in the car.
