A day of two halves
Steve JacksonAfter the majority of the team got stuck on the M11 and were late, we got underway had to endure an interesting warmup.
It felt like the fines wheel had been reappropriated, and updated with exercises, but unlike the fines wheel, it wasn’t weighted!
Where was the second hammy stretch?
South started well on the newly laid water-based turf at Old Louts and quickly stamped their authority on the game.
But having killed off a few too many brain cells at the Oktoberfest Saturday night, the rest of the day is a bit hazy and events seemed to have merged into one…..
After queuing patiently, the moment came, and the ball/stein was received in all its glory.
It was carefully taken under control with both hands, ensuring there was no chance of spillage/lose before being carefully carried around the back to the table/base line.
Unlike the ball, the beer didn’t require an error by the keeper to be sent to its home.
Sadly the first one went straight to our heads and Louts were soon on an equal footing.
With the initial buzz fading the only option was to sink a second and MoM Willow stepped up to the challenge.
He banged his first one home with aplomb and everyone thought a second was on the cards.
His flair had more twists and turns than a Pretzel but wasn’t to be and he ended up double parked.
First session South finished 2-1 up and Louts had a man in the bin.
As the night progressed the team started to wobble, much like the second half.
Once back to full strength Louts snatched the equaliser and then won a weak penalty which was converted.
The crowds were up on the benches singing and cheering them on.
Alas, with time being called, all the effort, communication and work rate the equaliser didn’t come, just like Jacko’s cider.
(The latter being a good thing.)
George had dressed up for the wrong occasion and in a tight run contest he managed to walk away with the Lemon clock, much to Sam’s relief.
Louts 3 – South 2
MON – Willow
Lemon – George
