A lesson in Latin and Classics
James Piperomnes me rogavistis ut totam expositionem Latine scriberem. itaque volui scribere de Huwo oculos a sole protegentem, Arthuro pilam amittente, Iustino saliente, Matthaeo de viris somniante, et me pectore vexillum protegentem. tamen, nemo vestrum verba mea intellexisset!
Therefore, some easy Latin for everyone:
fiat lux – Let there be light
What Huw T was thinking before he took off his shades.
fortuna audaces iuvat – Fortune favours the bold
– Fortune looked askance on brave Pipes who took one on the chest, conceded a penalty stroke and gained the Lemon!
veni, vidi, vici – I came, I saw, I conquered
Not quite a match victory, but Arthur J smashed it with the Player of the Match award.
non ducor, duco – I am not led, I lead
Captain for the day Gareth W showed his mettle with relentless running throughout midfield.
in somnis veritas – In dreams there is truth
Never has an aphorism been less true. Thankfully we didn’t have to face the 22 men that Matt W was dreaming about.
labor omnia vincit – Work conquers all
Appropriate for Danny J’s selfless shift all over the pitch.
disciplina praesidium civitatis – Discipline is the defence of the state
Will B’s concentration showed the state of his defence…
in vino veritas – In wine, truth
Ivo B’s story at Cantabs about Allardyce and his pint of wine. However, not sure Big Sam was very truthful…
arduus ad solem – Reach for the sun
Apt for Justin L who hung mid-air as he acrobatically picked one of their aerials!
e pluribus unum – Out of many, one
Our number 1, Joe L, stood firm against the many St Neot’s attacks!
nil desperandum – Never despair
No need to panic as Matt K kept dismantling opposition attacks in front of our defence.
carpe diem – Seize the day
James Morrison brought a real sense of urgency wherever he played on the pitch.
mens sana in corpore sano – A healthy mind in a healthy body
Intelligent and full of running, James T shone in attack.
aut viam inveniam aut faciam – I will either find a way or make one
When he eventually arrived, Daniel L brought all his experience, guile and determination to try and force our way forwards.
per ardua ad astra – Through adversity to the stars
Skipper James M won’t be stopped – committed to the core! We wish him a speedy recovery.
ad Marchiam pro gloria prima!
