Hooray, a win against Wisbech

Kerryn Berndsen

After spotting some truly inspiring personal sponsorships on the Wisbech line-up on Instagram, we reckoned the L1s deserved a little spotlight of their own. One highlight was a sponsorship by Bannersigns… so, here are the very appropriate ‘banner signs’ proudly displayed by our line up of sponsors.

Emily: Sponsored by mars bar duo, for obvious reasons, she’s out of this world and all good things come in twos… within a minute. Two goals in less than 60 seconds, need I say more… show off.

Tildy: It’s come to our attention that this vice captain likes to chew gum during a game - putting the gum in gumshield, literally. Appropriately sponsored by Wrigley’s extra cool breeze, cus this cool gal is a breeze to play with.

Jenny: Former captain Jenny is sponsored by Jet2, because nothing beats a jet2 holiday (after 3 years of captaining) and nothing beats this centre back. Delightful stuff.

Kim: Very newly appointed Veo ambassador. A veo legend some may say (it was Kim, she said it) - a legend in screen and on the screen. She’s self-appointed media officer of the L1s this season, so please reach out to sports fan KP for any further collabs. She’ll also be happily sponsored by anyone else, as long as it’s a personal invite.

Nichola: This year looking for Y1 sponsorship in hope that they send her some new socks… it’s about time. With or without socks, this gal has some serious defending abilities, so should be sponsored anyway. Those disguised passes deserve a sponsor of their own.

Izzy MP: Oh she’s back and better than ever. Appropriately backed by Amazon Prime cause this girl DELIVERS. Extra little sponsorship by M&S pants, cause they know they’ll get the exposure on the pitch. Izzy loves the free merch, and doesn’t need the LR changing rooms to show it off.

Loopy: Sponsored by Flash: the clean sheet didn’t last but the shine’s still there. And dead right this GK shines, she’s already sponsored by Ring Doorbell, cause no one gets through without her seeing it first. Not sure how Wisbech did it, cause we certainly can’t.

Alice: Sponsored by Wimbledon (or her actual Cambridge tennis club), these guys lend us the best of the best for the hockey season and provide some great preseason fitness, you’d never know she hasn’t been here til today. What a performance, it’s great to have you back.

Anna: She’s a natural defender and no one gets past her. Sponsored this season by specsavers. Two reasons - eyes so sharp she never misses a tackle. But also so blind she doesn’t see when the ball is ours…maybe it is time for that eye test.

Tess: Currently sponsored by Elaje Hair and Beauty. Using her PR and discounts wisely, she comes with a fresh cut and colour to a league game, who says you can’t do both? Rumour has it she’s also been contacted by Domino’s - goals delivered in under 30 min or money back guaranteed. Wisbech tried kick up a fuss with this delivery, but Izzy P was happy to provide some excellent customer service.

Izzy P: This forward has put in a hell of a performance today and has been lapped up by Gortex for the season. Why? Because she deflects Tess’ hit into the goal better than Gortex deflects water (Yes, I was reaching for this one). However, I also hear she has a morning ritual of glugging a litre of water before getting up, perhaps this is what makes her a goal scorer, and maybe Evian should get in contact.

Izzy S: Izzy is in high demand of the sponsorships this year. Will it be gorilla super glue or pritt stick for how she holds onto the ball? No, this year she’s sponsored by tinder, for her smooth pick ups.

Liv: She’s fast and she knows it. Defenders better watch out, she’ll out run you. Everytime. Liv’s been backed by Duracell this year, cause she is the perfect representation of what they’re about - just keeps going and going and going… a true duracell bunny

Kerryn: Well, captaincy is getting a bit much isn’t it? Admins managed, but three cheers is where we need some work. Sponsored by the Cardfactory, cause every hip hip deserves a good hooray.

Tim: Sponsored by Thai Airways, cause who doesn’t think L1s tactics should start in Thailand?

P.s. Ex hockey star Hannah Snow (sadly sponsored by not-quite-hockey, but rowing legends CUBC) is willing to sponsor one L1 hockey player this year for £1, first come first served.
