L5 1-9 Haverhill Ladies 1

Lou Walker

South lined up today to face what turned out to be a strong Haverhill side who clearly looked as though they had plenty of experience playing together and had a name on every pass. With Tadi rushing from school, Lou started in goal where she kept a clean sheet (ok full disclosure I was there for less than 10 mins and never had to touch the ball!). Luckily Tadi was able to step into the goal after a few minutes, allowing Lou to discard her GK kit and join the outfield, allowing the hard working defence some sub breaks. Overloads in our D and some strong short corner strikes saw Haverhill 3-0 up at half time. But we weren’t giving up, and a few minutes into the second half, some nice attacking moves by South saw Rittman put the ball into the goal, bringing it back to 4-1 and some hope for South. Sophie had a great debut for the 5s, with excellent pace. Amy had a storm of a game with strong drives through the midfield. Team play was good, and we have the potential of some good attacking play, but ultimately Haverhill showed themselves the stronger team on the day with a deserved victory. Many amazing saves from Tadi kept it at single figures.
