Autonomous self-driving team

James Wager

Before the game started we had a little bit of chaos created by a simultaneous push back with the 5s meaning we were left pushed for players. This was very apparent as we started the game with a borrowed player from Nomads. (Who put in a good shift and played well for us)

Despite this help we conceded two goals early on as the team tried to work out how to play together, with not only different personal but a decision to play a new formation than usual (3-4-3). However a bit of individual skill from Reuben S squeezing it in kept us in the game. Nomads returned the favour quickly just squeezing their third just in. South where able to respond with a  goal from Harry S (that I can’t remember, so it must have been a great team goal) and a third in the half for Joe W who caught one well off a short corner gave us a fair 3-3 at half time.

In the second half the lack of a sub started to kick in as we started to tire a little. Despite this South managed to take the lead for the first time all game, with a great finish from MoM and seemingly always running Noah B, a very well deserved goal for his effort on the right flank. The tiring legs meant that Nomads were able to get an overload into our D and score an equaliser, setting up an intense end to the game. Chasing the win South started committing more men forward and the very full D both led to and helped the winning goal be scored. Harry S tapped in his second and the decisive 5th goal at the back post (even if the control of the ball would have been better suited to Cambridge United) earning LoM for both this and his late arrival.

Despite just a little challenge with umpires  not being able to see through the congestion of a crowded D and preparations from Nomads. South were able to walk away with a deserved win and strong performance.

A big thank you to Andy for stepping up as captain and those who made yourselves available.
