Fun at the beach
James HartleyBefore we even got onto the pitch, CSHC 5th team had to contend with the fiendish defence of Wisbech parking arrangements. The map was of Gordonian complexity, with green, blue, orange, and pink zones marked and labelled. One driver received early lemon attention for cutting through the knot of instructions by parking in a nearby cul-de-sac.
On the pitch, things were simpler. After a rousing team talk from injured-but-still-present Captain Sandy, some early clean play and pressure resulted in play up the left, a great cross from Craig to Jordan, cool play back and thus a smooth goal from Rob. A few minutes later, similar composure got us a second.
We continued to dominate in the first third of the game. Jan, Keishi and Stu controlled the midfield with great movement and runs. Kei in particular kept the energy high, never letting the opposition rest.
Towards the end of the half, Wisbech picked up their game... giving our defence time to shine. Paul South and James H held centre back; James M and Ettiene made great runs from wingback. Up tip, James P kept the pressure high.
Half time - we were doing well and still two up, but felt we could do better. As the second half commenced, Wisbech did continue to press, resulting in some shorts (mostly blocked by Runner No. 1) and a couple of dangerous shots that Dan coolly blocked.
The pressure broke the opposition in the end. One goal from Craig was cruelly denied as maybe dangerous, but it was only a matter of time before our passing game put Rob in a one-on-one with the keeper. A lob, a tricky shot, and a strike from Rob!.. were all blocked, but this gave enough time for Jordan to join the attack and tap it in for a final score of 3-0.
Man of the Match was Keishi for his constant CDM energy. Lemon was double-goal-scorer Rob for suboptimal transport and unsuccessful lob. Well played all!
