Fate can be cruel
James MorrisonFrom the first whistle, we pressed with intent. Passes flowed, tackles were fierce, and for long stretches, Deeping were pinned back. Yet as the Weird Sisters might have whispered, fate can be cruel — three counterattacks, three goals, and the scoreline became an unjust reflection of the play.
Deeping’s keeper, surely touched by some witchly enchantment, turned away chance after chance — stick, pad, and glove all conspiring to deny what seemed certain.
Despite the result, the spirit of the team shone bright. Every player gave heart and sweat; no man shirked his duty. As Sandy – our Macbeth – declared at the end, “We played well, Deeping played well, and they had a very good Keeper.”
A fair summary of a noble contest. The result may read 3–0, but the performance spoke of courage, teamwork, and belief — proof that even in defeat, greatness stirs.
