I spent much of my weekend in the company of the CSHC youth section – and I can see a very bright future for the club – both in terms of league success and in maintaining our reputation as the friendliest club in Cambridge - these really are talented lovely kids!

My CSHC youth weekend kicked off with a wet and cold game with the L6s. Despite the weather, it was an absolute joy to play. This was partly as I had the opportunity to reprise a position not played since my captaincy season when I could put myself where I fancied (top diamond if anyone is interested), but in the most because it was such a great group of CSHC teenagers (plus fellow old timers Anna and Nicky and new goalie Wei) that formed the L6s for this match.

Particular game highlights were:

  • The reverse sweep from our youngest player (12!) - scoring her second goal from her second game - that looped over the goalie just to dip in time to head into Wisbech’s goal.
  • The well worked passing from the right inner to left inner into goal.
  • The confident clearing out from our D.
  • Excellent save by our very new keeper (mum to two of our juniors who thought playing in goal looked fun and has now played two weekends in a row).
  • The second goal from another talented junior to secure the win.
  • The increased confidence of the whole team that every minute brought - noticeable in quickened pace to meet passes and heightened conviction that tackles would be won.

The freezing rain did little to dampen spirits with the first victory for this L6s Development side secured. I suspect this lovely group of players will go on to experience many more victories in their CSHC playing careers!
