The Siege of Dereham: Cambridge South Victorious

Izzy Smith

On this fateful day, the pitch became a battlefield where Cambridge South Hockey Club clashed with Dereham in a contest worthy of the chronicles. The South warriors stormed forth with valour, claiming a 7–2 victory and etching their triumph into legend.

The Battle Unfolds

* Amelia (mom) released two arrows of precision, striking the enemy ranks with deadly accuracy.

* Liv, the fearless commander, carved through the opposition with three mighty blows, her hat-trick the centrepiece of the campaign.

* Amy, steadfast shieldmaiden, struck once to keep the foe reeling.

* Kerryn, the cunning strategist, delivered a final decisive strike to seal the enemy’s fate.

The Defense

Dereham’s forces rallied twice, but Cambridge South’s backline stood firm like castle walls. The midfield battalion kept the flow of battle under South’s command. And when the enemy threatened to breach the fortress, Lucy and Katie C stood as guardians upon the ramparts, each producing an incredible save on the line—acts of bravery that preserved the honour of the realm.

The Lemons of the Realm

* Coach Tim nearly faced the dishonour of “Lemon of the Match” after forgetting his fork for his lunch, a minor calamity that threatened to blot his name from the records of triumph.

* The true bearer of the lemon was Izzy S, who not only missed an open goal but was then forced to sit down by the opposing keeper, an indignity so great it even made a baby cry.

The Triumph

As the final whistle rang like a victory horn, Cambridge South’s knights raised their sticks high. The scoreline of 7–2 was not merely numbers, but the tale of a campaign fought with valour, unity, and relentless spirit.
