If I don't read it, I don't have to write it

Seb Dias

When I asked Josh R if he wanted to do the match report, he sensibly responded by leaving it unread, smart, must remember that one. So here we are, over a week later and putting off other things like Christmas shopping, or getting the next half of the seasons fixtures turned into Spond availability requests, or even actually compiling the feedback the coach was after.

On paper a 1-0 loss isn't that surprising from us given that we are a team that has unfortunately been far to used to bottom four so far this season and we were against a team pushing the top four. But I think we can be annoyed to have not managed at least a draw as we've been competitive in all the games against the teams up there, and we're now going into Christmas sitting in eighth, so we should be on track for a heathy midtable finish.

Having the late pushback, and both teams having to shoot off for Christmas parties, meant that we skipped on teas. So all my reflection on the game will be heavily affected by those that attended the party instead.

It was pointed out that we conceded from a short corner, something we'd worked on defending, and had appeared greatly improved on. Ben hasn't uploaded his usual keeper cam, so I can't say for certain how we let this goal in, but it could be placed at the feet of the captain choosing to start the preferred number one runner on the bench... however as there isn't currently video evidence we'll just chalk this up as a well struck St Ives goal and move on. One of the other subjects the lack of scoring goals ourselves, and while the forwards had some chances, it was brought up that maybe we could steal a 2s forward to help us out? This has lead to the revelation that you can bribe CCR with the promise of Pokémon cards* so don't be surprised if he's not available for the 2s after Christmas**. Sorry Jim.

The only other memory of the game I can't currently muster was the fateful return of an ex-South M3's player in none other than Ali Hart. Important things to remember about Ali:

- Unfortunately despite all the warnings to the team, he both still loves to back in and also somehow get away with it. Oh well.

- The last time he had played at Long Road he got himself a hattrick against a St Ives team. Luckily, he didn't score against us on his return, although I'd have taken him scoring an own goal or two.

- And lastly, in my favourite moment in the match, Ali rather proudly told his teammates "I'm on Seb", to which he got the brilliant response "Ali, we don't know who Seb is!". So whilst I may not be famous in St Ives, they should have been looking around to see the No. 47 in his trademark bandana doing his best to not fall about laughing.

*Note to self: Send Charlie Pokémon cards

**Second note to self: when you actually get around to making the Spond request don't forget to add Charlie
