L3s as Christmas songs
Tilly Goldman
Rebecca W – All I Want for Christmas Is You
All we want for Christmas is to stay top of the league and more goals. Part 1 is I'm the bag (just!) and Rebecca delivered on part 2. A textbook drive up the left and along the baseline from Indi before Rebecca knocked it home. A classy Christmas goal.
Hannah S - Good King Wenceslas
A solid hymn for a solid, steady presence in the middle of the pitch bringing peace on earth and good will to all midfielders. That said, the 'feast of Stephen' amounted to half a jacket potato and cheese as the veggie option. I hope Hannah found more sustenance elsewhere.
Gemma D – Run Rudolph Run
A blur - speedy Gemma was going back and forth non-stop. Also maybe running from the umpires after a few too many enthusiastic appeals...!
Becky W – It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
It's beginning to look a lot like push back - arriving anytime before this is on time, right? Either way we were glad she was there as Becky had an amazing game in screen. Great stepping in front and distributions out wide. A very well-deserved joint POM.
Katy B – Baby, It’s Cold Outside
And when it's cold you wear many layers. The message of yellow socks, purple tops (why this combo, we're not sure) wasn't quite passed on so Katy had to borrow a pair of white socks from St Ives. These went over her purple socks which went over a base pair of socks. Many socks. Extra points for pair #1 having penguins on. Very festive !
El W – Last Christmas
El left a lot on the dance floor after the work Christmas party the night before. Slightly low on energy at the start, El rallied for a heroic performance at centre back. Also successfully kept this under wraps before the LOM voting.
Indi H-C – Feliz Navidad
Wholesome vibes, brilliant captaincy, kept spirits high, and even stepped into defence when needed. Pure festive joy and another well-deserved POM.
Louisa W – Blue Christmas
It looks like poor Louisa is going to have a (black and) blue Christmas this year having got whacked in the hand not once, but twice! Hopefully some Christmas R&R will have our trusty defender ready and raring to go for the second half of the season.
Lou C – Step into Christmas
A tenuous link so bear with - after Louisa acquired bruise #1, Lou's parents very kindly thought to step (...) up and help. This led to a minor stand off with the umpires who stopped time as they went to walk behind the goal. Much gesturing, waving and confusion led to a slow shuffle backwards and time was resumed. A very wholesome, if unsuccessful, rescue attempt. I blame the silly pitch layout and the silly safety rules anyway.
Erin W – Here Comes Santa Clause
Another inner doomed to run up and down the pitch for the entire game. Her relentless tackles and channeling stopped St Ives in their tracks. (reindeer pun? Yikes.)
Sélène S – Frosty the Snowman
There's something of a similarity between a goalie kit and a snowman, I think. Sélène is a 'jolly, happy soul' if I ever saw one with pep in her step and energy for days! Also some cracking saves - I couldn't think of a festive link but deserved to be noted.
Tilly G – Deck the Halls
Slipping and sliding all over the place which very nearly caused a short. What was genuinely a pass ended up looking like a deliberate knock off the back line when instead of receiving the ball, I decked it. Luckily much pleading got this turned into a long corner. Still embarrassing. New astros now added to my Christmas list. (Christopher, take notes).
Steph & Luisa – Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Our captains were already off on their Christmas hols! Excellent delegation to Indi but still missed. Baby, please come home (for the next match).
