Sometimes one goal is just enough
Alice WrightSun on our backs, bright glare in our eyes
It just wasn’t working, although we did try
First touches were loose, passes drifting astray
A first half to forget on a perfect January day
A scrappy battle had started under Cambridge skies
But some moved like they’d added a Christmas dress size
Frustrations were rising as we tried to connect
Nothing close to the standards we’d usually expect
Tackles were clumsy, some clearances wild
Tim said our effort was looking a bit mild
Liv’s knee grew an egg, Kerryn’s head took a hit But both shook it off, too stubborn to quit
Half-time came and we shook off the rust
Captains reminded, in each other we must trust
Second half finally looked at bit more like ourselves
Stiff winter legs finally loosened themselves
Didn’t shine, didn’t flow, didn’t look like art
But we fought harder, and that’s where our comeback starts
Izzy glided past players without a shadow of doubt
Amy’s skills turned defenders inside out
At last, slick passing – Liv’s shot found the net
A moment that delivered a win we won’t forget
Could have crumbled when the first half got rough
But sometimes one goal is just enough
We survived, we stepped up, we held on tight
Four late corners kept out – our defence were up for the fight
Subs on the sidelines had covered their eyes
When the final whistle blew, you would have heard our cries
We showed why we’re such a hard team to beat
If only Emily could stay on her feet
It wasn’t pretty, no style on display
But I think we should be proud that we refused to give way
It was an ugly win, but the results page doesn’t lie
The three points are ours – though it was close, I won’t deny
No Veo highlight reel, no perfect play
Kim made us do the Mexican wave, on a sunny January day
