Home Advantage Took the Afternoon Off

Amy Dunne

We knew we were in for a good weekend of sport when South vs Sudbury and Ireland vs England clashed on the 21st of February!

A weekend of Breaking Records-

Firstly, as I’m sure most of the UK know by now, South beat Sudbury in Sudbury, breaking their long-standing home winning record for the first time this season. If anyone was going to get the job done, it was the Sportsfans.

To the delight of myself, Kerryn, and possibly Tess (need to double check), Ireland humiliated England in the rugby, scoring a record-breaking number of points on their home soil. I apologize to any English readers, though honestly, who doesn’t love to see Ireland beat the English?

The record for the most perfectly timed equaliser was claimed ten seconds before half time, finished with a top-hand corner deflection from Izzy Smith. Don’t mind me.

A record-breaking short corner defence was delivered by Jenny and co, reading the textbook and leaving Sudbury completely out of answers.

The record for the most effortless-looking 3D skills was broken by Amelia, always ending with the ball in the back of the net and South staring in amazement.

The record for the best personal goal celebration was broken once again by Kim, somehow managing to outdo herself after scoring.

The record for the most “Lemon of the Match” awards this season so far was broken by myself, claiming number three despite only joining in November, any award is better than no award, right?

The record for the most cups of tea consumed after a hockey match was broken by Evie, a truly elite post-match performance.

Lastly, the record for the loudest and most enthusiastic celebrations at the final whistle was shattered in style.

Between South toppling Sudbury and Ireland smashing England, it was a weekend where records fell, celebrations soared, and memories were made. Definitely one to tell the grandkids!
