L5 1-3 St Ives Ladies 3
A much better performance from the L5s this week, though sadly we were unable to repeat the victory of our last encounter with St Ives. It was a strong and well paced start for South. A few minutes into the game, Vicki unfortunately succumbed to injury, slipping over as she made a great run down the line. The remaining 14 worked hard throughout with lots of good runs and passes, putting names on the ball and generally showing much better accuracy than last week. The defence worked hard – fantastic picks and hit outs from Anna, brilliantly timed interceptions from Martha, and cool, calm clearances by Astrid. We made good use of going round the back on hit outs – almost as if we had practiced this in training! Sophie L showed great vision in midfield, picking up balls and finding the passes. We all supported each other as a team, moving around to offer passes, and generally playing some good hockey. Amy scored a great goal, and Sophie was unlucky not get her name on the score sheet after some good pressure and a bit of a scramble in the goal mouth. PoM Gina was everywhere in the midfield, and there was great play from Rosie who hung on to the ball well when under pressure. Although we didn’t get the points we hoped for, everyone came off with positive energy after a good game and positive that we can hold on in this division.
