M2 5-2 Ely City Mens 1
Rob O’Connor(Memory is hazy at best so false facts may be dotted around the match report)
On a cold gloomy Saturday afternoon, energy was low and heads were not in the right place, until the the spark of inspiration arrived. Not from any hockey related talk but rather the promise that if we come away with a win, Jim, captain extraordinaire, promised to run the Cambridge half marathon the next day. The idea of seeing our captain suffering it out seemed to be all the motivation we needed.
Cambridge South 2’s were firing on all cylinders, crisp passing, interplay and runs leading to multiple early opportunities.
John, Ollie and Eric started breaking through and creating opportunities for the forwards resulting in a barrage of goals putting huge pressure on Ely,
Charlie was on point with his drag flick scoring one and creating another opportunity and then converting a slick period of play between Andy and Jack, with Charlie finishing the play with composure pulling the keeper out of position and converting on the reverse stick.
John cracked open the midfield throughout the second half and converted two goals.
And Creedy, amongst his many dives, which he claims are essential to his game, found the back of the net.
This gave us the buffer to weather the storm of Elys final minute attempts to pull it back.
This was a great outing for the twos, putting in everything they have for the reward of knowing that Jim would be suffering the next day at the Cambridge half only to be let down by a weak excuse that race number collection was closed.
Let’s keep the wins going and finish the season strong.

Making a late run for M2s top scorer, only needs 11 more in the last two
