No need to discuss the many goals the uni scored (they were great, kudos to you oppo), we need to talk about OUR goal, it was a thing of beauty, something that wouldn’t look out of place on the international circuit. Unfortunately St Mary’s doesn’t have Veo so you’ll have to make do with my rendition…

Picture this. A sunny day at st Mary’s, South have just brilliantly defended a couple of short corners in quick succession (note: always wear your mask, Nic would’ve had to make the short trip to addenbrookes if she didn’t, luckily she came out unscathed). Anyways, back to the goal; the ball is cleared by the South defence out to the right to coco, who turns and pelts it down the line. A cheeky inside pass to Jas, who rolls her defender, and holds up the play beautifully for the cavalry to arrive. She pings the ball back out wide to Daisy who drives to the baseline and sends a gorgeous pass over the face of the goal to Charlotte on the back post, in the perfect position for a tap in. It was the stuff of dreams, we celebrated like we’d won the game! Our triangles were triangle-ing, washing machine was washing machining, we were having fun in the sun. 

The second half was just as good, improving our conceding rate from 5 to 1. We also had multiple chances, even hitting the post!! All in all, a performance to be proud of. Uni just had a fun 10 mins in the first half, and hockey is all about having fun right? (Note: the hail that arrived in the second half tried to dampen our fun, but failed). 

This lovely sunny day was topped off with watching our friends the L1s beat city! Go girls! (Tiramisu brownies were also enjoyed).

My last game for south and this team, it’s been an absolute pleasure captaining the 2s and they are going to rip it up next season in div 2 NW with washing machines, triangles, and animal themed warmups. Opponents beware…
