Competitive against any team in the division
Andy MooreOn a bright sunny day, Cambridge South’s Development Team took on top of the table Kettering 4’s who have been undefeated all season. The day got off to a shaky start with Andy Moore forgetting his shorts although his embarrassment was rescued by Rob and Sandy with a selection to pick from. The team had a good mix of youth and experience with Ben Lye swapping his GK kit for a run out on pitch. It was also good to welcome back the ever youthful Ky. It was also great to have Ryan S, one of the up and coming cluster of excellent GK’s making his adult debut.
The match got off to an even start with South mopping up the majority of Kettering attacks with Ben, Fraser and Cameron making with some great interceptions and distribution to the midfield. Nev, as usual, was the linchpin in midfield using his silky skills to dazzle Kettering. Wilko, was getting stuck into some good tackles and releasing Noah, Luke and Henry to create chances. South were matching Kettering toe to toe and were unlucky not to score with several attempts on goal during the first half. A couple of great crosses flashed across the D and just need a stick at the far post to convert.
Captain Rob’s team talk at half time was “more of the same please”. The second half started the same as the first with south creating some good opportunities and young Andy T making some good passes to open up play. Unfortunately, Kettering nicked a goal at the near post which looked like it was meant to be a cross with even one of their players stating “you didn’t mean to do that”. The remainder of the match was even with both teams creating chances and Ryan make some good stops including a great smother save to stop a certain goal. Unfortunately, South couldn’t get a goal to draw level with the game finishing 1-0 to Kettering. However, captain Rob again stated how well the team had played, especially our youth contingent of Ryan, Noah, Fraser, Luke & Cameron who have really progressed through the season.
Luke deservedly picked up man of the match whilst the team were munching through their usual post match pizza’s. Rob was harshly given lemon for captaining the side.
Luke D'Arcy
Roses are red, violets are blue; midfield tackles and assists galore too.
Rob Barton
Roses are red, carnations are pink; lemoning the captain, now guys that just stinks!
