We had an early and overcast start on our trip to Ely for the first league game of the season. We set up shop in a fairly cozy changing room for a rousing team talk set to the background of inspirational posters reminding us not to whine and eat our veggies. A brutal standard was set where being just 1 minute late to the meet time garners some LOM votes - we’ll see how this plays out the rest of the season…

We started off strong with a few newbies and a new formation to get to grips with. The break neck speeds of the Ely pitch took some getting used to but we ended the half strong with a fab short - a well-timed left slip from Hayley and a slap to the back post from Bex got us 1-0 up. (This wasn’t necessarily the plan at the start of the short but a goals a goal!). After this, poor Hayley was floored with the force a very gentle ball to the foot solidifying her as LOM (a creepy AI LOM but LOM nonetheless). 

After some sweets and an enthusiastic half time talk dissecting the new formation we got back to a dominant second half with lots more shots on goal. Unfortunately for us their goalie was fantastic and stopped us again and again. More unfortunately they were able to sneakily sneak a sneaky goal past us getting us to 1-1. We battled to the end but were left with a draw.

We then had curry ‘the temperature of the sun’ and an array of banana-based bakes from Rachael and Jenny. Luckily Hayley loves bananas and was thrilled at the options available.  

A well-deserved POM for Coco for her non stop running and constant hassle! Overall annoying score but looking forward to the season to come !
